How We Evaluate a Prospective Candidate's Auditions

This is page is intended to help a prospective candidate understand how auditions are evaluated. While we admit this is a very subjective process (it's possible to have a more compatible experience with some rather than others due to personality differences), we try not to use subjective means of grading any candidate. Instead, we aim to grade strictly on objectivity, overall performance, and adherence to the standards we outlined here on this site. Needless to say, it's a complicated process that can be a challenge to explain to others without discouraging their efforts to “make the grade.” So we stick with what we can prove as much as possible. The below table outlines my scoring system.

The scoring system itself is very simple: actions that add value to the audition add points, actions that reduce the value of the audition subtract points. There are no negative scores. Scores of 0 and below will result in the candidate not being considered. Candidates that violate the guidelines outlined in the Do's and Dont's page will likewise not be considered. Scores are revealed to the candidate at the end of the audition, as well as details on how that score was arrived at. If the score revealed at the end of the first audition, the prospective candidate will have an opportunity to score higher at their second audition. If the score is revealed at the end of the second audition, the higher of the two scores will be the one offered to the prospective candidate if the prospective candidate is chosen. So if a candidate scores 75 points in one audition and 85 in another audition, the higher (85 point) score is used and the lower one is discarded. This candidate, if selected, would be awarded a contract of $85 per hour.

Selection decisions are not made during auditions. The candidate will be contacted at a later date if selected.

We do wish to share some information about the scoring for roleplaying multiple characters. We have added this to the evaluation as an optional opportunity for a prospective candidate to add points and increase the value of the audition. We do not require a candidate to roleplay multiple characters, however, if they do so, they must be able to do so without compromising the overall quality of the audition. No points will be subtracted if the prospective candidate is not able to roleplay multiple characters, or if the prospective candidate cannot do so at an acceptable quality level. Rather, the additional points for multiple characters will simply not be awarded. My advice to a prospective candidate if they are not certain if they can roleplay multiple characters, is to simply concentrate on a good one-on-one audition and not concern themselves with roleplaying more than one character at a time. It's not sufficient that a candidate simply attempt to roleplay more than one character and then not be able to properly manage more than one character. No points will be awarded for attempting it in that outcome. If a prospective candidate can roleplay multiple characters just as well as a single character, there is the perception that such a candidate does have a higher level of skill. Such a perception is not out of line, and such a prospect would rightly deserve the higher score for successfully doing so.

Note about roleplaying multiple characters: No "twinning" or "cloning" multiple characters is permitted! THIS IS CHEATING AND MAY COST YOU YOUR BONUS, AND DEPENDING ON THE SEVERITY OF THE CHEATING, POSSIBLY YOUR AUDITION! By this, we are referring to characters that are so similar that they might as well be the same character! Characters must be distinct from one another by a minimum of THREE natural physical characteristics to be considered valid (hair color, eye color, height, age, etc.) Clothing, makeup, accessories, and other non-physical characteristics don't count!

For those of you who are concerned that my scoring system is slanted in favor of those who can roleplay more than one character should take heart: those candidates only get the points if they are successful, and it is possible for a candidate roleplaying only one character well to score higher than someone else roleplaying multiple characters poorly.

Above all else, we want you to know that we value talent here at Roleplaywithme.com. If you are not satisfied with any score you receive from us, tell us why. We believe in paying talented people fairly. If a candidate merits a review or correction, we will do so IF we can do so in accordance with our requirements, and as long as it's a fair process we can apply to everyone else. We do try to keep our evaluations as objective as possible. If you feel your talent merits a higher rate, tell us why. Even better, be prepared to demonstrate it. We will give you that opportunity if ask us. If you are able to perform consistently at that talent level, why not? Right?

Last but not least, please remember that as stated elsewhere on this website, prospective candidates receive NO PAYMENT for any auditions. This page is used solely to outline the criteria by which payment for talent is determined IF SELECTED TO BE AWARDED A PAID CONTRACT.
